Filament

« Back to Glossary Index

Filament yarn is formed from filament fibres. These are continuous fibres that can be measured in yards or meters. With the exception of silk (which is reeled in long lengths from cocoons), filament fibres are man-made. Examples include polyester, nylon and rayons such as lyocell. Filament fibres are twisted together to form a filament yarn.

Filament fibres tend to have a shiny appearance and are smooth to the touch.
