Introducing Alvar, a compact loom with big possibilities

Toika’s sturdy new birch countermarch loom brings the benefits of a hanging beater to smaller spaces. With a 70 cm weaving width and
eight shafts, it’s ideal for a wide range of projects, from scarves and towels to fabric for clothing.

The hanging beater allows easy, controlled beating of the warp for consistent picks-per-inch in your woven cloth.

Want to challenge your weaving skills? With eight countermarch shafts and the double weaving technique you can produce twills up to 140 cm (55 in) wide.

Do you want to weave rugs with higher warp tension? Check out Toika’s Jaana, Liisa or Eeva floor looms instead.

As with all Toika floor looms Laila arrives flat packed. Assembly is straight forward with bolts and barrel nuts used to fit the frame components together using the Allen key supplied.

Once assembled, Alvar’s frame occupies just 81 cm x 81 cm of floor space and the top of the beater assembly is 150cm high. Remember though, the warp beam crank and warp advance lever protrude a little further.

Top of the Lamms Tie-Up

Countermarch looms like Alvar can also be tied up in the less traditional way to allow changing of the tie-up to be made from the lamms rather than the treadles. This reduces much  of the crawling under the loom that is required on most floor looms. If you would like information on this method ask us when you order your loom.
