CompareAdd to wishlistDales Tweed is an exquisite 100% wool nepp yarn. It is dyed in colours inspired by the places and sights around the Yorkshire Dales. The vibrant shades in this range have contrasting nepps. Produced from 100% pure new wool the yarn gives a fine soft handle and is suitable for many applications including apparel, knitwear and furnishings.
The metric count of 6.2/2 Nm is equivalent to 6 Yorkshire Skeins (YSW, NeS). The manufacturer describes the yarn weight as 4 ply equivalent thickness for hand knitting.
Note that the yarn has not been washed and still contains an oil used in the blending and spinning process. Wet finishing is in two stages; the first will remove the oil and the second will cause the yarn to bloom and soften.
The first scour should be at 40 degrees C with a suitable detergent such as Woolite: add up to 10% of the weight of the cloth you are finishing. Hand wash with plenty of water.
The second scour is also at 40 degrees C with half of the detergent used in the first step. Continue to wash by hand until the desired handle is obtained. You can also add softener at the rate of 1% of the weight of the cloth.
Drain and spin (but do not rinse) then dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
Hand wash or dry clean.
Do not bleach.
Dry flat, do not tumble dry.
Medium iron.
