Wonderwool Wales.

We have decided not to attend Wonderwool Wales this year; instead we will be running an Open Weekend on the 26th and 27th of April here at Weaving Yarn HQ. We are located on the A470 20 miles north of the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, so attendees from the Midlands and North Wales will likely drive past us on their way to and from the show.
During our Open Weekend visitors will be able to see, handle and buy from our full range of yarns and weaving equipment. We will also have a couple of Toika floor looms available for demonstration; a computerised Janna and the folding compact Laila. You will also be able to weave on the Toika Leena table loom and Siru rigid heddle.
We will be open daytime and evenings on both Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of April. Please let us know if you will be coming, and we will make sure that the kettle is on!

New! Meridian Mill House Tencel.

Some of you will know that Webs, maker of Valley Yarns in the USA have been sold to Missouri Star, and quilting craft company. During the inevitable hiatus we have had difficulty obtaining some of the Valley Yarns range.
Fortunately, Meridian Mill House of North Carolina have launched a Tencel (TM) 8/2 NeC yarn dyed in the same range of colours as the ever popular Valley Yarns Tencel.
We have stocked all of the available solid colours, and also their variegated "combos".
Meridian Mill House Tencel is put up as 100g on cones, and is priced the same as the Valley Yarns Tencel. You can find the full range here:

New! Meridian Mill House Organic Cotton 4/2

Also from Meridian Mill House we have sourced a 4/2 NeC natural (non-mercerised) cotton which is a lovely matt yarn dyed in some very sophisticated colours. It's an organic cotton, and in terms of thickness it sits between our Valley Yarns 3/2 NeC and 5/2 NeC mercerised cotton. It weaves beautifully into a subtle, soft cloth.

New! Merino.

Having bid a fond farewell to JaggerSpun and with their merino almost sold out we looked for an alternative mulesing-free merino wool suitable for hand weavers. We found this 30/8 Nm (metric count) yarn in a range of 24 colours.
The 8 plies mean that it can take plenty of warp tension and we have woven with it on both rigid heddle and shaft looms with excellent results.
It is approximately a 26.6/8NeK worsted count which is a little thicker than the JaggerSpun merino.
Pictured below is a simple houndstooth weave. Merino fibres are softer than other sheep's wool, so they don't prickle sensitive skin and are perfect for scarves.
We have the houndstooth pattern available as a free download if you buy a kit of two colours of merino.

New! Gist Yarns Sero Silk Noil.

We have purchased a small stock of Gist Yarn's "Sero" Silk Noil. Sero is a rustic, nubby, matt yarn that weaves into an ethereal fabric with a soft hand and exquisite drape. It is an easy, consistent yarn to weave with, creating a wonderful experience for both newer and experienced weavers, on both a rigid heddle and multi-shaft looms. There are 19 colours to choose from, but buy quickly because tariffs between China and the USA mean that the price will definitely go up when we restock!

The Glimåkra bobbin winder and swift.

Often copied but never bettered, the GAV Glimåkra bobbin winder is a pleasure to use. Winding by hand means that you can evenly distribute your weft yarn across the width of your bobbins, and there is something quite mindful and relaxing about the process!
We also stock both paper and plastic bobbins which fit the Glimåkra winder and our range of Toika shuttles.
We also stock the Glimåkra umbrella swift. Made from wood, it can be clamped onto a table top and used to wind or wind-off skeins of up to 1.5m in circumference.
